An option to change the distance (ie from 5 to 10 miles)
For some, a bikeable distance may only be 2 miles, while others are willing to ride 20 miles.

I've submitted a related idea titled: "Base BikeScore on amenities within distance coverable in 5-20 minutes (similar to WalkScore)". Since the WalkScore & BikeScore are intended to describe things that are easily accessible for short errands, this strikes me as about right.
Stoplights/traffic slow all riders down, regardless of ability, so there is a fairly limited radius that can be covered in 5-20 minutes (roughly 1-3 miles). So it might be possible to stick with a single metric (useful for real estate purposes).

I think this is a great option. I'm currently a bike commuter, and when I started out 4 miles was tough. But today I can average 10 miles is 45 mins.
But even this factor can change based on city and road conditions. So letting a user select what distance they might think they can ride would be helpful.

I understand the need, but that does take away from using 'one number' as a metric. I think this can be mitigated by using a map.

I like the idea of allowing for different levels - one area might be great for slow-riding families with kids, but not very good for hardcore cyclists looking to get in a 50-mile fast ride. Or, an area might have great bike paths for recreational cycling (scenic paths around lakes, for example), but those routes don't get you anywhere useful directly, so they are no good for commuting. An option to change the distance might be a proxy for that, but I think we might want multiple bike scores for different kinds of cycling - sport, recreational, commuter, family.

I think this is also relevant for Walk Score...I have a low walk score because everything is 1/2 mile away, but I consider that to be perfectly walkable, while someone else may not.
